Breakfast.

Well, why don't I just start off by saying that Lyn over at escapefromobesity.blogspot.com has created a wonderful blogroll, where all of us trying to lose weight/get healthy can visit each others blogs and support each other in our journeys- I really hope that you will follow my blog and then I can follow yours and we can help each other out, whether you're into fashion, art, weight loss or all of those three things that I'm passionate about.

So I just wanted to do a post about breakfast.
In a previous post (just scroll down) I wrote about how I'm 'allergic to the morning'.
When I wake up anytime before 9am, I suffer from nausea-it's not too bad, but it means even the thought of breakfast makes me feel very ill! From family members to complete strangers I've always been told off for not eating breakfast, but I wonder if it's alright to go without it? Or does anyone have any suggestions of really light breakfast ideas? It's a bit tough, because the majority of bloggers I see are American, where as here in New Zealand we don't have alot of products that other countries do.
I wonder if a banana every morning is enough?

  1. In my experience and reading, I've found that the most important thing for breakfast is protein. So, if you want to eat a small breakfast, perhaps you can add a bit of protein. Some ideas: a few almonds or a bit of natural peanut butter with that banana; a hard boiled egg; a protein smoothie; some low fat yogurt; a string cheese. For me, when I am queasy, I can usually get down the yogurt or a piece of whole wheat toast lightly spread with peanut butter. HTH :)

  3. Sammy, I totally know what you mean, I get nauseated if I eat too early too. I think I might try Lyn's advice of a protein smoothie.

  5. I think Yogurt is a good idea - light and has some protein in there. I drink a smoothie every morning but I am also a morning person and must have breakfast to start my day. Wasn't always like that.

And thanks for stopping by my blog Sammy - welcome to blogland. You will find a bunch of very supportive people on here.

  7. Hi Sammy!

First of all I want to congratulate you on the steps you're taking towards a healthy lifestyle! I think that you realise by now that it has to be a whole life change rather than a fad diet, and I believe it takes everyone a little while to come to that conclusion.

Now, as for this breakfast situation... What I think it is (and what I suffered with through my late teenage years) is the fact that your body is not conditioned to accept breakfast. You're stuck in the habit of getting up late and skipping breakfast, so when you do manage to force some food down your body rejects it! It could also be an issue of irritable bowel syndrome - which is manageable.

My suggestion is to start slow, get yourself into a routine of getting up at a certain time and eating something small. Just so your body can 'get used' to the process. It might take a little while for the changes to occur, but they will eventually. You need breakfast to kick start your metabolism, and it will be one of the most important steps for you in your weight loss journey!

    Breakfast suggestions:

fresh smoothie - skim milk, fresh (or frozen) berries, banana and a scoop of protein powder or almond meal (you can get these from most health food stores)

toast - choose rye, wholemeal or grainy breads & top it with vegemite or avocado

porridge - opt for rolled oats (the less processed the better) and top with berries, cinnamon and low fat milk.

    YUMMMM

    good luck babe!

    xo
